Nearly all policies have an excess. Your policy will state this amount. If your screen or window can be repaired then the excess will not be applied.
Is there a cover limit for my windscreen?
Some policies will have a limit. This is based on either the number of windscreen claims that you can make during the policy period or on the amount paid out. Your Statement Of Insurance will have full details of the cover on your policy for windscreen damage.
Should I involve the police?
You should inform them if:
- there is a dispute about exchanging details
- someone has been hurt
- the road is blocked by the accident.
Will my no claims bonus be affected if I was not at fault?
If you were not at fault, we will not have to make any payment and so your no claims bonus will not be affected.
Will my No Claims Bonus be affected if I am at fault?
If the insurers have to make a payment to anyone else involved in the accident then your No Claims Bonus will be affected. You will lose 2 years No Claims Bonus which means that you will have to pay more premium at renewal unless you have Protected No Claims Bonus.
Will I have to pay an excess? If so how and when?
Most policies have an excess for accidental or vandalism damage. The insurers repair service will calculate yours when you ring them. The excess must be paid to the repairer, once the work is done to your satisfaction, even if you are not responsible for the incident causing the damage. The insurer can claim the excess back from the person who caused the accident if you are not to blame. You must keep any receipts.
What does the uninsured loss cover I have do?
It means that if you did not cause the accident or at worst if you are equally to blame, then your insurers will instruct solicitors to make a claim for you against the insurers of the driver who was to blame. Items not covered under your motor policy like lost earnings, hire car costs and injury can all be included.
Do I have cover for my personal effects?
Most comprehensive policies have limited cover, check your Statement Of Insurance. Some items are excluded for example cash, documents, tickets and mobile phones. You may be asked to provide proof of purchase. |
